Mikayla Shirley (2001) is a jazz vocalist known for her evocative range, emotional depth, and striking musical maturity. Raised in a multicultural family, Shirley draws from the rich traditions of Black American music and her Puerto Rican American roots, to explore new possibilities within jazz while honoring its legacy. She began performing professionally at age 12, discovering in jazz both a calling and a refuge, using the music as a way to navigate and transcend the hardships of life. She has collaborated with renowned artists including Yoko Miwa, Benny Green, Rafael Barata, Kenny Werner and Peter Eldridge. Through these collaborations and her own evolving artistry, pursuing a masters at the Global Jazz Institute at Berklee, Shirley continues to shape a sound that is both deeply rooted and forward-looking.”
